Hiring a strong person with a good driving record (Martinsburg and Chantilly)

compensation: $20/hour
employment type: full-time
job title: Non-CDL Driver and Warehouse Work

My company is 2 years old and it's grown to where I now need help doing it all. Looking to hire a physically strong person with a good driving record because there will be lots of driving under the company DOT number (no CDL is needed).

The job can be full time or part time (I'm flexible for the right candidate) with a fairly flexible schedule on most days. Monday - Friday, mornings and afternoons, generally there will be no evenings or weekends.

You'll be assisting me in picking up commercial equipment from schools, military bases, hospitals, etc and transporting it to one of my warehouses in either Martinsburg WV or Chantilly, VA for auction. Once you learn the job, you'll be taking one of the company trucks (no CDL needed) to pick up equipment by yourself, across Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, DC, and Pennsylvania. The truck may be a 26ft box truck with a lift gate, a pickup truck with a lift gate, or an F550 Stakebody with a liftgate. If you're interested, there may be overnight trips (by yourself) within a 500 mile radius (company pays for hotel/per-diem), but the longer trips will be optional and infrequent (I'll do most of the long distance pick ups).

The vast majority of the lifting will be done by forklifts, lift gates, pallet jacks, and various dollies. Experience with this equipment is not required, as you'll be shadowing me for a little while as I train you. And although most lifting will be done by our equipment, manual lifting is sometimes unavoidable. For this reason, you need to be physically strong and capable.

The plan will be for you to work alone most days, so you'll need to be a self-starter and able to manage your time and tasks with minimal or zero supervision. Many days will entail a phone call in the morning to go over the day's goals, and a phone call in the evening to go over the end of the day's accomplishments and issues.

There will be other duties as well, depending on your talents and skillset. Some of these could be paperwork, internet and computer work, accompanying me to certain business-to-business meetings & sales appointments, taking vehicles in for service, and about a dozen other tasks I could use help with.

This position is being newly-created and you'll be the first employee of the company other than myself. The job will evolve according to your talents and mission requirements, so the exact job description is varied. Some titles that encompass the job is foreman, transportation, logistics, movers, warehouse, customer service, and several others.

You must have a decent driving record and must be comfortable driving large vehicles such as a 26ft box truck, or adept to learn. You'll have to maintain a driver's daily log, pass through weigh stations, stop and comply with random DOT vehicle inspections, and also pass a bi-annual DOT physical (which my company will pay for). This position does not require a CDL, so there isn't a drug testing policy, and the DOT physical won't be testing for drugs. That being said, please be clean and professional. The DOT will screen your urine for untreated diabetes and other state disqualifiers for operating a commercial vehicle (under 26,000 lbs).

Pay is $20/hour. It's a small company, so health insurance is not available at this time.
